Migration continued
We had been relying on rsync for our backups from hot system to standby system (both FreeBSD setups); trying to use rsync to get data from local disk to NetApp filer volume over NFS was problematic and was abandoned. We had to revert to a straight "cp -Rp" to the NFS-mounted filer volumes. Rsync had copied the correct number of files, but many thousands were truncated.
Migrations paths
I would like to write about my experiences integrating a NetApp FAS3050c system into our company network and storage practice, and migrating 10TB data from a slightly creaky fileserver running on FreeBSD 4.5 + Samba 2.2.2 -- but right now, I don't know where to start. The integration work is largely complete but I am still trying to complete the migration tools.
NetApp, OnTap 7.2.2, snapvault, cluster, NFS, CIFS, FTP, HTTP, rsync, NT4, /etc/passwd, /etc/group, md5, symlinks, change management, company communications ...
